From July 1st to September 27, 2020
Four editions, over 40 nationalities represented, not less than 215 artists exhibited: in 15 years, reGeneration will have been seen by more than 600,000 visitors on five continents. It is today an object of exhibition in itself. On the eve of the Musée de l’Elysée’s move to its new location, LabElysée proposes an overview of reGeneration over time and has begun work on its archives from three different perspectives.
Accessible online the reGeneration_web platform proposes an interactive map of the exhibition for the purpose of spotlighting the community that has grown up around the project over the last 15 years. By playing around with the filters, the viewer can draw the links between photographers, institutions and schools. The platform also provides access to the artist’s biographies.
Visible on the wall, computer graphics inform the visitor about the selection process. Whereas the first three editions were based on recommendations from art schools, this new edition relies on the recommendations of former reGenerationists. Each edition is also illustrated in several figures: number of artists, works exhibited, visitors, etc.
In his video interview, William A. Ewing looks back at the origins of the exhibition. He describes the motivations that led to the creation of the concept of reGeneration in 2005. By recalling the career paths of some of the artists and their subsequent evolution, it is the opportunity for him to reminisce about a challenge launched 15 years ago.
