Portfolio review

The Musée de l’Elysée organizes four times a year portfolio reviews to allow photographers to talk about their work with a photography specialist at the museum. These sessions are open through registration only for all photographers, regardless of their photographic technique and image processing. Selected photographers will be contact.

Conditions for participation and the portfolio review process

Jean-Christophe Blaser, Daniel Girardin, Anne Lacoste, Pauline Martin, Carole Sandrin, Radu Stern and Sam Stourdzé will receive photographers individually to discuss their work for 20 minutes. The photographers will meet only one specialist from Musée de l’Elysée who will be assigned by the Musée de l'Elysée. Up to thirty photographers will be received at each session.

Participation in portfolio reviews is free for Elysée card holders. Photographers who do not wish to become members may participate in the Elysée portfolio reviews for the sum of CHF15 .- which includes museum admission, coffee and a croissant.

Photographers can submit prints or digital images, but only on their personal computers (battery fully charged).

The portfolio reviews are purely advisory. The Musée de l’Elysée does not commit itself to buy, display or retain all or part of the portfolio that has been presented. A period of one year is required to register for a new session.

Applications and portfolios sent by mail or electronically will not be taken into account.

Screenings

Twice a year, the best photographs from the portfolio reviews will be chosen for a commented screening. On this occasion, each of the selected photographers will present their work for 10 minutes.

To prepare for the screening of the selected works, the photographers involved in the portfolio reviews will be asked to leave a CD at the Musée de l’Elysée containing the images they want to submit, and a curriculum vitae. These documents will not be returned to the photographers and will be only used after prior agreement of the photographers.

Practical recommendations

As interviews are limited to 20 minutes per photographer, here are some preparation tips to make the most of the review:

- Edit your images
- Make a limited selection of images to present
- Sort your photos into series
- Prepare a clear presentation of your personal experience and work

Some hotels in Lausanne offer special rates to visitors to the Musée de l'Elysée. Photographers wishing to benefit from this scheme should contact Mrs. Laurence Hanna-Daher (contact below).
