Founded in 1896 by the pastor Paul-Louis Vionnet (1830-1914), the iconographic collection of the Canton of Vaud became part of the Musée de l’Elysée’s collections in the 1980s. It now contains hundreds of thousands of images covering the history of the medium.

reGeneration – an innovative international project devoted to the emerging photographic scene launched in 2005 – represents one of the hallmarks of the Musee de l’Elysee. Although many similar projects have seen the day since then, the Musee de l’Elysee decided to embark on a third edition on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, one that would focus on the multifaceted nature of photography.

At the end of the 1950s, Eggleston began to take photographs near his home in the South of United States using black-and-white 35 mm film.
