The Musée de l’Elysée organizes three times a year portfolio review allowing photographers to discuss their work with a specialist from the museum. These review sessions are open to all photographers upon registration regardless of their photographic method or image treatment.
Daniel Girardin, Anne Lacoste, Pauline Martin, and Caroline Recher will welcome photographers individually to discuss their work for 20 minutes, between 10am and 12pm, at the museum. The photographers will meet with one specialist only from the Musée de l’Elysée, selected by the Musée de l’Elysée at the availability of the reviewers. There will be a maximum of twenty-four participating photographers each session.
The Musée de l’Elysee will open at 9:30 am on the days of a portfolio review.
Each photographer will receive a detailed letter to confirm of his/her participation by fax or email.
The best works from the portfolio reviews will be featured in a public screening at the Musée de l’Elysée. On this occasion, each of the selected photographers will be invited to give a ten minute presentation of their work.
Interviews are limited to 20 minutes per photographer; here are some tips to help prepare in advance to make the most of the review.
- For digital presentation: Edit images beforehand. Recommended resolution: 300 DPI
- For prints: Maximum recommended format 180 x 100 cm
- Sort photos by series
- Make a limited selection of images to present
- Prepare a clear and concise presentation of your relevant work and personal experiences
Participation in the portfolio reviews is free for holders of the Elysée membership card. Photographers, who do not wish to become a member, can participate in the portfolio review sessions for a charge of 15 francs—this includes museum admission, coffee, and a croissant.
Photographers may present their images in either paper form, or digitally.
The Musée de l’Elysée is not responsible for the return of materials submitted during the portfolio review. Photographers involved will be asked to leave a CD of digital images to be presented during the review, and a current resume. If selected to participate in a screening, materials will be kept by the Musée de l’Elysée and presented only with the prior agreement of the artist.
Photographers chosen for a screening will be contacted by the Musée de l’Elysée one month before the event. Photographers who have not been selected will not be contacted.
Portfolio reviews are purely advisory. The Musée de l’Elysée does not commit itself to buy, exhibit, or preserve all or part of a portfolio presented.
Photographers may only register for one portfolio review per year.
Applications and portfolios sent by mail or electronically will not be taken into account.
