True to its mission to scout the world of images, ELSE #13 explores the questioning, the interior landscape of those who capture it. Whether objective or subjective, contemporary or dated, conventional or offset, the objects presented here echo to an intuitive, or else carefully observed perception of the themes they explore. Iconoclast, whistle-blower or support to clichés, deliberately engaged in extravagance, voyeuristic or exhibitionist, each one brings us back to that part of our self that restores or endlessly reinvents the articulations of the real and imagination to tell a story, one’s own story…
ELSE #13 - June 2017
A trilingual review launched in 2011 by the Musée de l’Elysée, ELSE explores photography in all of its diversity and questions the new and changing ways in which we gaze at images. In each issue, ELSE features original portfolios and shows the many facets of emerging photography.
A collector’s item with radical design and authentic curatorial platform supported by international photography specialists, the review emphasizes discoveries. Brief and efficient texts supplement the portfolios and allow images to fully express themselves, while a central portfolio dedicated to the Museum’s Collections provides some historical background to these contemporary series.
Its biannual release matches two major events marking the international photography calendar: the Rencontres d’Arles in July, and Paris Photo in November.
ELSE is available by subscription and at fine bookstores.
Scince 2015, ELSE is under the direction of Tatyana Franck. As a participative platform, ELSE has an editorial committee composed of:
