Roland Topor

Roland Topor, famous French artist known for his multiple talents (writer, scriptwriter, illustrator, director, actor) is also famous for his mime talents, displayed in a series of small scenarios made in a photobooth. Topor, who is fond of animation films, uses the format and the strip setup as a cinematographic sequence. The stories are composed of four acts and interpreted in a single shooting. He manages to compose a succession of different and synchronized expressions despite the short posing time. These silent and burlesque short movies are then supplemented with humorous captions, characteristic of his typical absurd style. Made between 1967 and 1969, the Topor-matons reveal his future taste and talent for directing. (Credit: Topor-maton © Nicolas Topor)
